Notes on my work
The objects consist of coloured bee wax, applied in several layers on a wooden, glass or acrylic glass surface. This technique has been known as encaustic painting since the classical antiquity. Characteristic for this way of painting is the relief surface.
The separate brushstrokes are visible and the light breaks on the lively structure of the surface. The transparency of the wax enables the simultaneous observation of the differently coloured, numerous coats. The objects seem only at first sight in one colour or monochrome.
On closer observation the many different nuances combine to a complex colour impression, to a ‘found colour’.
The works unfold their game with light and colours especially when differently coloured objects are presented in the room in relation to each other and chromatic correspondences, parallels and even irritations are to be observed.
Besides, an accentuation and structuring of the space present through the differently sized objects is also aimed at.
During my exhibiting these last few years it became gradually clear that I can use the mostly block formed wax-objects as a modular construction.
Depending on the space and colours present, the objects repeatedly form new combinations which even surprise me.
