Marcel van Eden
Marcel van Eeden has been working for years on an impressive
oeuvre of drawings all based on images produced in the period
before 1965, the year of his birth. The subjectsof his drawings
vary from city views, fancy interiors and cosy pubs to explosions,
abstract patterns and texts from newspapers and books. This
variety brings forward the encyclopaedic character of his
work.
It seems that van Eeden tries to reconstruct the period
before his birth. By drawing these old images he assumes
power over the period he didnt experience, he literally
moulds it to his own will.
Initially he drew only on formats of 19 x 14 cm, but these
last few years he has made especially drawings of 19 x 28
cm, and because of that the depictions have a more panoramic
character. Approximately 25 drawings of this size are shown
in the exhibition.

Florette Dijkstra, untitled (2002), acrylic on canvas, 30
x 40 cm.
Florette Dijkstra
In the past few years Florette Dijkstra has mainly worked
on projects (visual and literary) about persons, who once
played a role in art history but are completely forgotten
and mentioned never again. During her research she has also
made paintings and drawings, not directly related to the persons
themselves but based on the landscapes these people lived
and worked in.
The series of drawings and paintings, made over the past year
has no relation with her earlier projects whatsoever, these
works were made during her travelling without an objective.
